Among Avatar: The Last Airbender's most beloved installments gets its own MTG Secret Lair.

The entire Secret Lair superdrop for the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender collection was unveiled earlier this month. This includes five Secret Lairs, and while a set named "My Cabbages!" is clearly funny homage to the show's most famous minor character, the remaining sets seem somewhat lacking creativity, aside from one remarkable entry: "The Ember Island Players."

What makes this episode is special

Viewers of the show warmly cherish this particular episode, which acted as a review of the hero Aang and his friends' adventure prior to the final episode. Different from typical clip shows, or "clip shows," "The Ember Island Players" was not driven due to production constraints or production issues. The producers specifically aimed to give fans a chance to recap the show's narrative, yet they chose to do it creatively.

In the episode, the heroes view a theatrical performance depicting their exploits at a playhouse on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The whole thing is wildly exaggerated, over-the-top, and overall hilarious. It succeeds since it plays on the characters' views of themselves, setting them against with how the world (and especially the Fire Nation) sees them. It has an ideal level of introspective humor, and it ends up perhaps the best adaptation of the show we have had.
