Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Team Against India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-game ODI series versus India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a surprise inclusion.

Recent Form Result in Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international team after being dismissed for one in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now work towards a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Changes

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a red-ball recall as Australia search for a fix to their top-order woes.

Bowling Additions and Fitness Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a series clean sweep last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
